ステテコは明治時代に着物やハカマの下に穿くものとして誕生しました。やがて洋装中心の生活になってからも、ズボン下や湯上り着として私たちの日常に溶け込んできました。
それは日本の風土や生活環境にとても密着したものだったから。お風呂上がり、お父さんがビール片手にステテコ姿で夕涼み...。そんな光景は昭和の夏の風物詩でした。

The Steteco was invented in the Meiji era to wear under a kimono or hakama. Even after European-style clothes became mainstream, the steteco was always in demand in daily life for wearing under trousers or after taking a bath, because it matched the Japanese climate and living environment. Putting on the steteco after a bath, having a beer in hand, enjoying the evening cool - in the recent Showa era that was a scene that belonged to summer.

ステテコができるまで

1. ちぢみを織る

   近江 - 滋賀

   

   steteco.comの商品は、ステテコ本来の心地よさをお届けするため、高温多湿な気候に適した日本の伝統素材「綿ちぢみ」の生地を使用しています。糸から生地を織り上げる作業は、滋賀県高島市に点在する工場で工程別に行い、熟練の職人たちの厳しい目で管理しています。

2. しぼを出し、晒す

   近江 - 滋賀

   

   製織された生地は、高島市内の晒（さらし）工場へ。緯糸（よこいと）の撚りが戻る力を利用して、綿ちぢみの命である「シボ」と呼ばれる布面の凹凸が作られます。江戸時代に誕生し約200年もの歴史を持つちぢみ生地は、通気性や吸汗、速乾性に優れ、爽やかで快適な着心地を生みだします。

3. 柄を染める

   山城 - 京都

   

   ちぢみ生地になったら、京都に運ばれスクリーンの型捺染機（かたなっせんき）で色柄が付けられます。布面に凹凸を持つ生地のため、型捺染を行うには高い技術力が求められます。水洗・乾燥工程を経て、ふんわりとした柔らかさと清涼感のある肌触りを併せ持つオリジナルのテキスタイルが出来上がります。

4. 生地を裁ち、縫う

   豊後 - 大分

   

   色柄が付いた生地は大分県国東半島の自社工場に運ばれ、裁断と縫製を行います。創業以来、約80年に渡り肌着を作り続けてきた長い歴史の中で、現場の職人とミシン技術者が改良を重ねたオリジナルのミシンを使用しています。単に生産性だけを追い求めるのではなく、着心地と品位を最も大切にしています。

  ムシムシと汗ばむ梅雨の時期や真夏の炎天下に大活躍。汗からスーツを守り、長持ちさせてくれます。ズボン下として着る際は、ステテコを軽くおさえながらズボンを上げていくと、ずり上がらずキレイに穿けます。

  The Steteco is a boon during the stuffy rainy season or under the burning midsummer sun. It protects your suit from perspiration and makes it last longer. When you wear it under trousers, we advise you not to pull the trousers all the way up at once, but to put one hand under the trousers and push down the steteco as you pull the trousers up with the other hand.

  夏祭りや花火大会で、せっかくの浴衣姿も汗だくでは絵になりませんよね。和装を"粋"に着こなすために、ステテコを穿くことをおすすめします。ヒザ裏を伝う汗をしっかり吸収し、浴衣が直接肌に貼り付くことを防いで快適です。
